ITSEKIRI CONGRESS UK STANDS FIRMLY BEHIND OGIAME ATUWATSE III CFR IN REORGANISATION OF ITSEKIRI YOUTH LEADERSHIP
*London, UK – November 27, 2025* – Itsekiri Congress UK (ICUK), the official umbrella body
for all Itsekiri associations in the United Kingdom, issues this statement to unequivocally affirm its full support for the decision of His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III CFR, The Olu of Warri, to bring the operations of the former Itsekiri National Youth Council (INYC) to an end and mandate the establishment of the new youth body, Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths (UIY).
ICUK recognises that Warri Kingdom is guided by a single, revered authority—the throne of the Olu of Warri. The decisions emanating from Aghofen (the Palace of the Olu of Warri) remain final in all matters concerning Warri Kingdom and must be respected without reservation.
*Upholding Unity and Condemning Affronts*
ICUK wishes to state unequivocally that we are never in support of violence, especially
given all the threats we have seen on social media. We urge all parties to ensure that every
issue is settled through sensible consultations and dialogue, utilising the appropriate channels at Aghofen.
As a body, ICUK hereby affirm that Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths (UIY) is the only legitimate and recognised umbrella body for all Itsekiri youths, in line with the King’s directive. ICUK fully supports this collective alignment as essential for maintaining order, unity, and progress within the Kingdom.
ICUK is now aware that an inauguration ceremony has been carried out by the faction opposing the King’s directive. We consider this action a clear and deliberate affront on the
revered throne of the Olu of Warri and a blatant disregard for His Majesty’s decision.
*Commitment to Palace Authority*
While ICUK is aware that the Delta State Government has waded into this matter, we maintain that no individual or group is bigger than Itsekiri Nation or the authority of the Olu’s
throne. We urge all Itsekiri youths and those aged 40 and above involved in this matter to follow the proper channels of engagement by referring all concerns and discussions to the
appropriate authorities at Aghofen.
ICUK believes that all Itsekiris no matter their interests, should never disrespect the throne
with their actions and we emphasise that Itsekiri affairs must be managed through the
established traditional leadership structure. We urge all Itsekiri sons and daughters to align
themselves with the Olu’s directive by rallying round UIY for the collective benefit of the
entire Itsekiri Nation.
