Boyo Hails Sapele Itsekiri as Pa Gbenegbitse Emerges Olare-Aja, Calls for Unity

Chairman of the Trust Committee of Jakpa Community in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, Deacon Andrew Boyo, has congratulated the Itsekiri people of Sapele on the successful installation of Pa Prince David Gbenegbitse as the Olare-Aja, the oldest man and traditional father of all Itsekiri communities in Sapele. Boyo described the development as a landmark achievement and a unifying moment that underscores the cultural strength and cohesion of the Itsekiri nation in Sapele Local Government Area.

He commended the collective resolve of the Itsekiri communities, the leadership of the Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths (UIY), and other key stakeholders for ensuring a hitch-free ceremony. According to him, the peaceful and orderly conduct of the event reflected the people’s maturity, unity of purpose, and deep respect for their cultural heritage.

The installation ceremony, held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, in Sapele, was performed by representatives of the Olu of Warri. The Chiefs who carried out the rites included Chief O’timeyin Adams, Chief Omolubi Newuwumi and Chief Walter Boyo, acting on behalf of His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri. The event attracted prominent sons and daughters of Itsekiri land and marked a significant chapter in the traditional history of the Sapele Itsekiri.

While congratulating the newly installed Olare-Aja, Boyo urged Pa Gbenegbitse to use his revered position to foster peaceful coexistence between the Itsekiri and Okpe people in Sapele, and to promote peace, equity and unity among Itsekiri communities. He also applauded the Itsekiri youths, particularly the Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths led by Comrade Joseph Okotie, for their discipline and commitment, noting that their active participation contributed immensely to the success of the historic occasion.
