Mrs Tola Akerele, the GM/CEO of National Theatre, was the Special Guest of honour as ARTMIABO 2024 kicked off yesterday April 29, 2024. The event, an international art festival, is in its 3rd edition. In her goodwill message at the art festival, the GM/CEO said she is passionate about visual art. She also commended the organisers of the event as well as the artists who had their works on display. Mrs Akerele encouraged the artists who have remained in the art space in Nigeria despite the odds against them. The GM/CEO further encouraged the artists to key into the Destination 2030 agenda of the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy.

While at the event, the National Theatre Media interviewed the Curator, who further explained the theme of this year’s art festival, “Sculptor’s Odyssey”: A Chronicle of a Dexterous £D Visual Practice. From her explanation, it was gathered that this theme celebrates sculptors from all approaches. She emphasised that children will be given special opportunities to participate, interact and learn during this festival. The festival was put together by Miabo Enyadike aka ARTMIABO. Grandson of legendary Afrobeat maestro Fela Kuti, Made Kuti, was on the ground to serenade the audience.
