Delta Central: Itsekiris APC Delta Central Demands Political Inclusion for Itsekiri Communities

ASABA, DELTA STATE —
The Itsekiris in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta Central has formally appealed to Delta State Governor, His Excellency Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, urging him to address what it describes as long-standing marginalization by ensuring equitable political representation and inclusion for the Itsekiri population within the senatorial district.

In a strongly worded appeal directed to the state government, the itsekiri Apc delta Central leadership emphasized that the Itsekiri people, recognized historically and culturally as aboriginal community owners within Delta Central, continue to face systemic exclusion across both local government and state-level administrative appointments.

The group anchored its demands on the core tenets of the Federal Character principle enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. According to the group, despite the Itsekiri demographic accounting for a significant portion of the population across Delta Central, major political offices have remained disproportionately dominated by members of the Urhobo ethnic majority.

The geographical footprint of these communities extends across multiple Local Government Areas in the senatorial district. specifically, Ethiope West LGA, Ethiope East LGA, Sapele LGA, Uvwie LGA, Udu LGA and Okpe LGA.

The group stressed that the current structure of governance leaves these aboriginal communities entirely unrepresented in critical developmental agendas, policy-making positions, and executive assignments.

Appealing to the Governor’s Inclusive Governance Pledge
Recalling Governor Oborevwori’s prior public declarations that he functions as a leader for all Deltans rather than any single ethnic constituency, the group called on the state chief executive to translate these promises into measurable, actionable outcomes.

”The Governor has repeatedly affirmed his commitment to a broad, inclusive governance model under his administration,” a spokesperson for the group noted. “Translating that vision into reality requires correcting the glaring imbalance in Delta Central, ensuring that executive appointments and development initiatives reflect the dual ethnic presence of both Itsekiris and Urhobos.”

The forum have also shown their support for the president tinubu and governor sheriff administration by the open endorsement of the president and governor come 2027 general elections.
