Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri Rewards Bayelsa Queens with Millions for League Victory

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has splashed millions of naira on the victorious Bayelsa Queens Football Club following their triumph in the 2024/2025 Nigerian Women Professional Football League.

The governor announced a reward of ₦4 million each for the 26 players who featured in the league-winning campaign. Players who were registered but did not play received ₦1 million each.

The head coach received ₦4 million, while the chairman of the board got ₦3 million. Each assistant coach was rewarded with ₦2 million, backroom staff received ₦1.5 million each, board members got ₦1 million each, and the supporters club was given ₦3 million.

Governor Diri also called for the immediate review of salaries for players in the state-owned male and female football teams and emphasized the need to establish feeder teams to sustain football development in Bayelsa.

In addition, Premium Trust Bank rewarded the Bayelsa Queens players and technical officials with ₦2 million each, recognizing their outstanding performance.

Governor Diri received the giant gold trophy from the team and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to nurturing sports excellence in the state.
