Senate President Akpabio Leads Nigerian Delegation to Vatican for Pope Francis’ Burial
Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, led the nation’s delegation to the Vatican for the burial ceremony of the late Pope Francis, who passed away earlier this week.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian people, Akpabio paid tribute to the pontiff during the Lying-in-State held inside the historic St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.
In a solemn moment of reflection, the Senate President described Pope Francis as a symbol of peace, humility, and unity, noting his impact on global Christianity and humanitarian efforts.
“The world mourns a spiritual giant. On behalf of President Tinubu and the people of Nigeria, I offer heartfelt condolences to the Vatican and the global Catholic community,” Akpabio stated.
The burial ceremony drew global leaders, religious figures, and dignitaries from across continents to honor the legacy of the first pope from the Americas.
Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, served as the head of the Roman Catholic Church since 2013 and was known for his progressive stance on social issues and dedication to the poor.
