Governor Fubara To Revamp Rivers Cultural Centre, Assures Of Establishing Arts Training School
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to revive the abandoned Rex Lawson Cultural Centre to support the growth of young talents in arts and culture.
Gov. Fubara said this after inspecting the Rex Lawson Cultural Centre located at Bonny Street in Old Port Harcourt Township on Monday, November 11, 2024
According to him, “we are here to assess the Rex Lawson Cultural Centre, an arts facility constructed by the previous administration. Unfortunately, it has not been put to use for some time, and as you can see, it is in a deplorable state. We are considering the possibility of refurbishing it to support young people who are interested in arts and culture.”
The governor emphasised that in order to make the Center viable and vibrant as a way of reactivating the entertainment industry, his government is considering establishing an Art and Culture Training School to support the facility.
He said, “Our plan includes establishing a training school, with this facility serving as its base. That’s why we’re here to salvage it and put this facility to good use.”
The governor was accompanied by Commissioner for Special Projects, Dr. Roland Obed-Whyte and his Culture and Tourism counterpart, Hon. Israel Lebura Ngbuelu
