Amaechi Pays Tribute to Late President Muhammadu Buhari
Former Rivers State Governor and Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a true Nigerian statesman whose love for the country and its people was unwavering.
In a heartfelt tribute dated July 14, 2025, Amaechi said he was profoundly shocked by the news of Buhari’s passing, noting that the late president believed strongly in uplifting the poor and worked tirelessly for a better Nigeria.
Reflecting on their time working together, Amaechi said Buhari supported key projects during his tenure as Minister of Transportation, including the modernisation of Nigeria’s railway system. He listed projects such as the Lagos-Ibadan railway, Warri-Itakpe, Port Harcourt-Aba, Kaduna-Kano, Kano-Maradi (in Niger Republic), and the Abuja-Kaduna railway as some of the major achievements Buhari stood behind.
Amaechi also praised Buhari for backing the Deep Blue Project, a major maritime security initiative that helped address insecurity in Nigeria’s maritime domain and led to the country’s removal from the list of high-risk maritime nations by the International Maritime Bureau.
He further credited Buhari with supporting the commencement of the Lekki Deep Seaport and other notable infrastructure projects across the country.
“He was a true Nigerian Statesman,” Amaechi wrote, while offering condolences to Buhari’s widow, Aisha, and his children.
“May Allah grant him eternal rest,” he concluded.
