Comr. Gbubemi Awala Celebrates with Oka Community as Winners of Olu of Warri Community Peace Cup, in Honour of Late Justice Alfred Eyewumi Awala

Warri, Delta State — 17 August 2025.

The Chairman of the Itsekiri Interest Group and presidential aspirant in the forthcoming Itsekiri National Youth Council (INYC) elections, Comr. Gbubemi Awala, on Sunday, joined the people of Oka Community to celebrate their victory at the 10th edition of the Olu of Warri Community Peace Cup Tournament, held in Warri.

The prestigious tournament, designed to foster grassroots football and strengthen peace across Warri communities and beyond Delta State, has grown into a major unifying sporting event in the region.

This year also marked the second edition of the special individual awards instituted in memory of the late Hon. Justice Alfred Eyewumi Awala, a revered statesman and jurist remembered for his immense contributions to justice, peace, and community development. With support from his brother, Mr. Jonathan Awala, prizes were presented to the Highest Goal Scorer, Best Goalkeeper, Fair Play Team, Best Coach, and Player of the Tournament.

In addition, football scouts from BB Sport were present to identify and nurture outstanding talents, further highlighting the tournament’s role as a platform for youth empowerment and career development.

The event was graced by Chief Gabriel Awala, the Uwangue of Warri Kingdom, who represented His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, as part of activities officially kicking off the monarch’s 4th Coronation Anniversary celebrations.

The awards not only celebrated excellence on and off the pitch but also stood as a testament to the enduring legacy of Justice Alfred Eyewumi Awala, ensuring his name continues to inspire future generations in Warri Kingdom and beyond.
