On behalf of His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, The Olu of Warri, the Warri Council of Chiefs and the entire People of Warri kingdom, I extend heartfelt congratulations to you on the occasion of your 90th birthday and the conferment of the National Honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
Born on 13″ June, 1935, in Sapele, Delta State, you have dedicated your life to the service of Journalism. Your illustrious career began with the Daily Times of Nigeria, where you served as editor of the Sunday Times. In 1971, you co-founded The Punch Newspaper with the late Chief Olu Aboderin, and in 1984, you established Vanguard Media Limited, Publishers of Vanguard Newspapers, which has since become one of Nigeria’s leading Newspapers.
Your Contribution to Nigerian Journalism are immeasurable. Through your column “Sad Sam” , you provided with satirical literary and political insights that
resonated with many. Your unwavering commitment to the principles of truth, justice and professionalism has set a standard for generations of journalists.
As you celebrate this remarkable milestone, we pray that you continue to grow in strength and health, and that you are blessed with many more years of fulfillment and service to humanity.
