Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor Must Not Be Returned In 2027 says Comr. Emmanuel Fregene, warri south west stakeholder
Comr. Emmanuel Fregene have highlighted several reasons, grounded in real, verifiable concerns—why certain critics might argue that Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor should not be re nominated to represent Warri South West in the 2027 elections:
1. Allegations of Intellectual Misconduct
A controversy emerged in May 2024 alleging that a private member bill originally drafted by an Assembly member, Hon. Matthew Omonade, was later presented in the Delta Assembly plenary as an executive bill. According to sources, Omonade had shared the bill with the Speaker (Guwor), who declined to list it, only for the executive to later release the identical bill—with replicated errors—without crediting Omonade. If proven, such allegations call Guwor’s integrity and respect for colleagues into question.
2. Potential Issues with Oversight and Internal Controls
Though direct allegations of financial misconduct against the Speaker himself are not documented, broader systemic concerns are noted. For instance, in early 2025, the Delta State NUJ lodged petitions over embezzlement and misuse of funds by union leaders during a courtesy visit to the Speaker. Those funds were alleged to have been handled improperly, raising questions about transparency in interactions with the Assembly. Critics may argue that as Speaker, Guwor bears ultimate accountability for institutional oversight and ethical standards.
3. Ethnic and Regional Sensitivities
Warri South West is a multi ethnic LGA composed of Itsekiri (six wards) and Ijaw (four wards) populations. Given the region’s history of ethnic tensions—including the Warri Crisis that led to displacement and conflict between the communities—critics may question whether Guwor has effectively balanced representation or whether his tenure intensified concerns over equitable development and Management of Local Stakeholder Relations
In mid 2025, controversies arose over ward delineation in Warri Federal Constituency, causing fears that changes could upset the fragile peace among groups. While Guwor was not directly accused of misconduct here, critics may pose whether, in his capacity as Speaker and local leader, he adequately advocated for fair and transparent delineation processes, especially given his influence in state politics and local political dynamics.
5. Potential Perception of Cronyism and Political Loyalty Over Constituency Focus
As Speaker and a top PDP figure in Delta, Guwor wields significant political power. While supporters widely praise his infrastructural legacy—such as schools, electrification, roads, youth and women empowerment, detractors may see him as overly aligned with the PDP executive and not sufficiently independent. They might argue that his dual roles as constituency representative and high-ranking state official prioritize party loyalty over grassroots accountability.
In Closing
While Emomotimi Guwor is praised by many for his visible development projects and leadership within the Delta State Assembly, critics argue that concerns over ethics, inter ethnic representation, oversight, and political independence offer legitimate grounds to question his suitability to represent Warri South West again in 2027.
