Governor Douye Diri Receives Award of Excellence from Uniport Class of 1980s
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, was today formally presented with an Award of Excellence by members of the University of Port Harcourt (Uniport) Class of 1980s at the Government House, Yenagoa.
The award, which was originally conferred during the 2025 Reunion of the group held last weekend in Umuahia, Abia State, was brought to Yenagoa by a delegation of the alumni led by Mr. Ben Willy.
In his remarks, Governor Diri expressed deep appreciation to the Steering Committee of the Uniport Class of 1980s for the honour, describing the recognition as a call to action for alumni to give back to their alma mater.
“I thank you profusely for the award. I am truly grateful to have been given this unique honour. This is a clarion call for us to give back to the University of Port Harcourt, because that’s where we cut our teeth,” the governor said.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Ben Willy stated that the award was in recognition of Governor Diri’s inclusive leadership and developmental strides in Bayelsa State. He noted that the governor has made the Uniport Class of 1980s proud.
