Warri Political Interest Forum Urges NPA to Proceed With Relocating Operations to Warri Port

…Says the Region Is Ready for Full Maritime Revival

The Warri Political Interest Forum (WPIF) has called on the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to proceed decisively with the relocation and expansion of its operational headquarters and activities to Warri Port, stating that the move is long overdue and of great national importance.

In a public statement signed by the Chairman, Comr. Prince Abugewa Youngreen, and the Secretary, Comr. Eboma Touyo Michael, the Forum stressed that Warri Port is strategically positioned to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s economic growth, regional integration, and maritime competitiveness if fully activated.

According to the Forum, Warri Port historically, one of Nigeria’s oldest and most viable maritime gateways has suffered years of underutilization due to policy neglect, excessive centralization of port operations in Lagos, and the absence of deliberate federal investment. WPIF insists that this is the right moment for a bold shift.

Economic and National Benefits Outlined

The Forum highlighted several far-reaching advantages of relocating and strengthening NPA operations in Warri, including:

Decongestion of Lagos Ports and improved national port efficiency.

Stimulation of massive economic growth across Delta State and the greater Niger Delta region.

Creation of thousands of direct and indirect jobs for youths, maritime workers, and local enterprises.

Revitalization of the region’s industrial corridors, logistics chains, and riverine transport networks.

Comr. Prince Abugewa Youngreen stated that the people of Warri are fully aligned in their desire to see renewed activity at the port. He emphasized that all relevant Itsekiri communities are prepared to welcome NPA’s presence and provide the needed cooperation and security.

Secretary of WPIF Comr. Eboma Touyo Michael added that a revived Warri Port would not only enhance local livelihoods but also strengthen national revenue generation, reduce pressure on road infrastructure, and diversify Nigeria’s maritime economy.

Warri Political Interest Forum also cautioned against attempts by political actors or vested interest groups to obstruct or frustrate the relocation of operations. They reminded stakeholders that port development is a national economic decision and should not be manipulated for personal or ethnic advantage.

They called on traditional rulers, regional leaders, youth bodies, and security agencies to work collectively to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted process.

In closing, WPIF declared:

> “Warri Port must no longer remain dormant while possessing the infrastructure, waterways, and geographical advantage to serve the nation effectively. The Nigerian Ports Authority should proceed confidently. Warri is ready, the people are ready, and the future of the Niger Delta’s maritime economy depends on this decisive step.”

The leadership of Warri Political Interest Forum reaffirmed their commitment to advocating for developmental fairness and ensuring that Warri gets its rightful place in Nigeria’s maritime and economic map.
