Breaking News: Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong Appointed Vice Chairman of Senate Committee on South South Development Commission
In a significant move aimed at bolstering regional development and ensuring effective legislative oversight, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, who represents Cross River South Senatorial District, has been appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South South Development Commission (SSDC).
The announcement was made as part of the Senate’s renewed commitment to fast-track socio-economic growth, infrastructural development, and inclusive governance in Nigeria’s South-South region. Senator Ekpenyong will serve alongside 11 other distinguished lawmakers recently named to the committee.
The South South Development Commission is a proposed statutory body envisioned to coordinate and implement development initiatives across the South-South geopolitical zone, which comprises Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Rivers States. The Commission is expected to address key challenges such as environmental degradation, youth unemployment, economic diversification, and regional integration.
